TAIO CRUZ, "DEPARTURE"

One thing I miss about home (Zimbabwe) is the music channels available to us, thanks to DStv. One particular channel I really miss is MTV. The MTV we have is MTV Europe which is way better than the regular MTV here. For one, they actually play music videos! Well, so a few days ago, I was thinking of the good old days when one could turn on the t.v. and watch Dancefloor Chart, Hitlist U.K., European Top 20 or World Chart Express. To curb this sudden pang, I decided to see what songs are popping in the U.K. (and thus, Africa). And I discovered TAIO CRUZ .

Taio Cruz (pronounced "Ty-O Cruise") Quick Facts:

Full Name: Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere

DOB: April 23, 1982

From London, England, United Kingdom

Father: Nigerian ; Mother: Brazilian (cool huh?!)

Debut Album: Departure (released, March 17, 2008)

The song on the charts right now is the song that you are currently listening to on my page. It is entitled, Come on Girl featuring Luciana. This is actually his 3rd single and so far, the most successful and I know why! I absolutely love this song right now; it's a great party song. The reason I love it so much is the combination of the techno synthesiser guitar and R&B groove. Then Luciana added that little bit of a change that made it even better. So of course, I decided to check out his complete album on Youtube.Com and I am AMAZED. It is a very good album!! His sound is different, yet catchy, but not so different that you are turned off. Actually, his beats sound like those produced by Timbaland.

Similar to Ne-Yo, he wrote and produced songs for other British artists for a few years and now, decided to release his own album. Departure is completely written and produced by Cruz.

(I also provided links, in case you want to listen to them. He has quite a few music videos, I put the links for the music videos where applicable so check them out!)

The bonus track is actually a song written by Taio Cruz but performed by U.K.'s First Idol winner, Will Young, back in 2004.
